For over 15 years, Lori has worked with older adults in sport and life performance training and refuses to accept the “I am too old” excuse. Regardless of age and fitness level, she believes most people sell themselves short of what is actually possible for them. Overall, Lori’s commitment is to lifelong health inside and out. Through her coaching, Lori’s clients learn how to optimize movements for all activities in sports and life, and as a result she has helped numerous clients achieve their athletic and personal goals.

The word “athlete” has defined me since my youth as exercise and sport have defined my inner and outer well being. I’ve reached the unthinkable, such as being a landlocked paddler winning the 2004 Outrigger Canoe World Sprint Championships. It is a little like the Jamaican Bob Sled team winning the gold medal.  Yep, I did it!  It was hard and it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.

I now train others athletes including paddlers of all ages and help coach them on their way to what they may have thought to be the unthinkable. I have an extensive background including personal and group training, sport specific training for all ages, and working with mature adult programs.  Over the past five years, I’ve focused on coaching individuals and groups in the areas of paddling performance and overall sport performance which includes mental toughness. While I once participated in track and field, cross country, basketball and softball. I now enjoys slow-pitch softball, biking, hiking and other outdoor activities. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my son.

I help my clients by improving their confidence, empowering them to tap into their inner athletes, and by improving their inner and outer strengths. I coach them on the path to their goals and keep them on track by creating routines and programs that fit into their unique schedules. As a coach and trainer, I provide tools to reduce the effects of stress, increase functional movement, reduce the possibility of injuries, optimize dragonboat paddling, and train outrigger canoe paddling (locally in Portland and virtually worldwide). My clients develop resiliency, adaptability, and above all, achieve their goals.

Her goal was to personally challenge herself to be the best she could be, and to go beyond her comfort zone to develop and improve her own skills and talent, and to improve her own mental toughness ,knowledge, and inner strength. She was selected Homecoming Queen her senior year by her fellow classmates, a tribute to her love and devotion to sports, and to the affection and respect of her classmates and teachers.

She Graduated from Wartburg College with a Bachelor of Science degree in  Physical Fitness.  While attending Wartburg College, small private College, she had the opportunity to work closely with her fellow students and instructors, in both academics and in sports. Her participation at the college level helped her to learn and appreciate the value of personal training, not only in her career, but also in everyday life situations. While at Wartburg she made an effort in sports to improve her own mental toughness, inner strength, knowledge, abilities, and to always strive to go beyond her comfort zone to accomplish more.

Her senior year she was involved in “Wartburg West”, a program at Wartburg College that allows seniors to participate real life activities in their chosen career, working in their field of interest. She had the opportunity to work at a Health Club in Littleton, Colorado and was able to apply and demonstrate  many of the skills and knowledge she had worked for so diligently in her own career as a student and as an athlete. Black Cat Racing

Outrigger Canoeing was not added to my list of activities until the fall of 1998. It only took paddling once in the canoe for me to get hooked. I’ve been competitive in six-person canoe racing since my first competition in December of 1998. In 2001 I began my quest to enhance my paddling skills by competing in one-person canoe racing. My drive for success has taken me to the 2002 World Sprint Championships in Bora Bora and realized in my first place win at the World Sprint Championships on August 15, 2004 in Hilo, Hawaii.

My boat is named Popoki ‘Ele ‘Ele Awiw which is Hawaiian for “the fast black cat”.
